UFC champ Pereira ‘honoured’ by Anthony Joshua comments

Alex Pereira’s achievements in the cage have caught the eye of Anthony Joshua.

The British former two-time unified heavyweight champion, who last fought in March where he scored a stunning second-round knockout of former UFC titleholder Francis Ngannou, suggested online in recent days that Pereira could very capably make a transition to boxing if he so chose.

Joshua’s comments come days after Pereira continued his history-making streak through the UFC with a second round TKO finish of another former champion in Jiri Prochazka (his second), meaning that all seven of his past opponents in the UFC have been, at one time or another, a world champion.

I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight? https://t.co/SuERao5At1

And the former two-division kickboxing champ’s achievements were subsequently lauded by Joshua, who wrote on social media: “Alex Pereira should make a boxing debut one day.”

In response, Pereira wrote: “I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight?”

The reply issued by ‘Poatan’ prompted some wild speculation in the comments, with fans suggesting names from Jake Paul to Francis Ngannou — and even the now-banned Ryan Garcia.

It should also be noted that Pereira has competed in one professional boxing match in his career; a 2017 win against fellow Brazilian Marcelo de Souza Cruz that came about four years prior to his UFC debut.
